How do I socialise two hamsters

when they get 2 a certain age they will fight and can kill each other. trust me it happened 2 me xx

Although dwarf hamsters can be kept together, it usually only works well if they came from the same litter.
But even this is not a guarantee & there is always a possibility they will start fighting.

Once this happens there really is not much u can do, they've pretty much decided they do not like each other or company in general.

Of course, it is easier for dwarf hamsters to get along if there is plenty of room in the cage, & since they tend to sit in their food dish while getting food a small dish could lead to fighting. Getting two separate dishes or a bigger dish should help in this situation.

But if they r just squabbling in general, then there is really no getting them to see eye to eye. although their eyesight is not that good to begin with.

it is hard to keep hamsters together after they get to a certain age - usually above about 3 months because they get so used to being alone.

put them in a neutral area - where neither of them have their scent and just watch them. they will probably look like they're fighting but it is most likely just trying to show dominance. if you see any biting or blood (like the scratch on the one is nose), separate them immediately.

Once they take a dislike to one another you will find they fight to the death. They can be really nasty when they want to be. I had a litter live together for a long time, and then they all started picking on one little fella and I got up the next day to find him badly bitten and injured. He never recovered from his injuries and I felt so guilty. Separate them now while there is no major injury problem.

Get a butt monkey and the two of them will cower together in absolute terror at the sight of it.

Not all hamsters enjoy being housed together. Usually the way if u r to house them together is u need to buy them together on the same day from the same litter. If not, u may need to try & use the split cage method to introduce them to each other. This method is often used for gerbils, but it can be used for dwarf hamsters as well.

You can also, once doing this, move each hamster to the others side of the cage weekly (or every few days) so they begin to recognize the scent of each other. After at least a week of this, u can begin to try & introduce them to each other. Put them on NUETRAL GROUND (like a spare cage or tank or something & watch them carefully.
The two will fight for dominace, but if the fighting gets too rough seperate them immediately! If u need to seperate them u can begin the whole thing over again (split cage etc)
Some hamsters enjoy living with others, some do not, u may have got two who simply do not like one another & who will always end up fighting..

keep them in 2 seprate cages 4 right next to each other then in about to day try 2 put them in the same cage they might fight about 2 or 3 times then they will get together its happend 2 me before

Sorry to give you bad news but:
Hamsters are solitary animals, they do not tolerate company.
The only time they do tolerate others is when a male & female 'get together' to breed, other than that they will try to tear each other apart. :-(

Hamsters are not social animals unless it is breeding time. They will never accept each other unless they were litter mates. You will have to accept that they will never get on.

Edit: I've had Russian Dwarf hamsters before and they were prone to biting, they were not quite as friendly as other larger breeds of hamster, so be prepared!

I do not think its possible, i had 2 hamsters in the same cage once and they used to had terrible fights, so much so that i had to buy another cage to separate them. As far as i know, hamsters do not live together, they do not get on, not like guinea pigs or the like. Just as well you separated them, they probably would of killed each other in the end. Why did the pet store say they would be ok, they're clearly clueless!!!!!

Sit the two of them down at the table and explain the situation to them, and how their actions are hurting the ones around them.

From what I can remember, hamsters are pretty easy-going and level-headed, so they should take your advice seriously enough.

If not, make it clear that the next step is an ASBO!
